It is Friday morning, and I have been working all week and Fridays are typically family day for me, so we are going skiing in a couple of hours.
Next week I will be in Mexico at a Four Seasons for a week while the kids are with Grandma and Grandpa.
So, this hotel name got me thinking about the 4 seasons that I enjoy here in South Dakota. I enjoy summer; boating, camping, biking, hiking with the family, but as great as it is, I know winter is coming.
In the business world, I know winter is coming… I do not know when or how bad it will be.
I think about how much control I have over my destiny as a business owner, and I get concerned for people who tell me about their job (great paying jobs), but they share how inside they are really insecure about their job in 2, 3 or 5 years from now.
To me, it is not about whether we are in summer (great economic times) or winter (harder economic times), it is about me being able to adjust my business accordingly, and the great thing is, I get to make those decisions.
When I first got into the Sola Salon business it was on the back of the real estate crisis, and I have to say, we got the best real estate deals. Looking back we passed up some real estate deals that in the end purchased a few years later but paid WAY too much money for them.
The point is…
If you are in Corporate America, take a step back to see how secure you really are when winter comes.
If you are a business owner, evaluate your plan so you can thrive when winter comes.
